“No Empty Dish” makes sure that both seniors and their pets have enough to eat—so no “dish” (human or animal) is left empty.

No Empty Dish is a pet food assistance program connected to Meals on Wheels that helps low-income, homebound seniors care for their pets.

What the program does:

  • Provides unexpired, unopened dry dog and cat food to seniors

  • Serves people who are already receiving meals through Meals on Wheels

  • Delivers pet food along with regular meal deliveries

  • Helps seniors who are homebound (unable to shop or cook easily)

Why the program exists:

Many seniors:

  • Live alone and rely on pets for companionship and emotional support

  • Have limited income and sometimes share their own meals with their pets

This creates a difficult situation where seniors may go hungry just to feed their animals.

The Purpose:

“No Empty Dish” aims to:

  • Prevent seniors from sacrificing their own nutrition

  • Support the health & independence of older adults

  • Allow seniors to keep their pets, which improves mental and emotional well-being
